WHAT’S
NEW AT MCKEE DESIGN
Kriterion
Conservation Architects go live
Among our recently completed
projects, we have been very pleased to create a
new website for Kriterion
Conservation Architects,
part of the Hamilton
Architects Partnership, whose
website we designed and launched earlier this year.
Kriterion are highly experienced in this area of
work, skill built over 30 years of endeavour. Their
past projects include work on the Sinclair Seamen’s
Church, the former home of CS Lewis and the Belfast
Harbour Office.
It has been an interesting project to work on and
completes a programme of work for Hamilton Architects
which, in addition to the two websites, included
new corporate identity design and incorporation
of this into a comprehensive range of business
stationery and building site name boards.
New image
for County Down Crafts now known as 'The Craft
& Design Collective'
The
Craft & Design Collective is
an independent non-profit-taking membership
organisation
formed in 1997 by Artist/Designer/Makers
for Artist/Designer/Makers, to help raise
the profile, and manage and facilitate the
development
of Craft, Applied Art & Design in County
Down. Last summer it acquired a central Belfast
shop and exhibition area, and with members
from all over Ireland is changing its very
local identity for something more appropriate
for its current status. This new website is
part of that change. CDC’s shop and
gallery in The Fountain Centre, College Street,
Belfast
is well worth a visit - you can buy or commission
some excellent work by the growing band of
talented designer makers and applied artists
who belong to the collective.

A few tips on keywords
and phrases
- There are parts
of the website which are critical in terms of
search engine ‘visibility’.
These are the home page, the page titles,
and the body text on each page. If a
page has no text, or only contains images, search
engines are less likely to see it.
- Keywords (meaning
individual words or groups of words), which are
typical of the kinds of words searchers might
use when
looking for a site like yours, must be
generated. Groups
of words are generally better than individual
words. It is a good idea to ask others
what words or phrases
they might use when searching for your
product or service.
- Think in terms
of primary and secondary keywords.
Primary key words would relate to absolutely
fundamental aspects of your business activity.
Secondary ones might
relate to some
particular aspect of your business which
is covered on an
individual website page. Any of these keywords
or phrases might be used by a searcher
looking for your service or product. You
should place
keywords in body text at the rate of one
or two primaries
and two or three secondaries on each page.
In addition, and most importantly, each
page should have a page
title which includes keywords which relate
particularly to that page. The title will
be built into the ‘source
information’ for that page and will
appear at the very top of the page. The
home page should
be more ‘loaded’ with both
primary and secondary keywords than other
pages.
